Enso and climate variability in Papua

چکیده
Abstract The interaction of sea-atmosphere in the middle and east equators Pacific Ocean identified as El-Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO) is one interannual climate variability Indonesia. Extremes phase ENSO, EL-Niño, La-Niña have significant impacts on all sectors including agriculture, maritime, fishery, healthy, forest fire, transportation, etc. To anticipate ENSO impacts, it required to identify specific regions. In this study, we analyze impact rainfall characteristics several areas Papua Islands namely Merauke, Jayapura, Manokwari, Wamena. result analysis reveals that Wamena are influenced by with different influences among areas. general, onset rainy season earlier La Nina years comparison normal year dry come advance years. annual La-Nina higher than lower anomaly varies differently Papua.

Climate Variability Impacts on Land Use and Livelihoods in Drylands
This edited volume is devoted to the examination of the implications of the inevitable changes wrought by global change on the welfare and livelihoods of tens of millions of people who live in dryland regions. Global change is more than just climate change and the ramifications of changing trade patterns (geopolitical and economic aspects), the shift to the market economy, demographic factors (...
متن کاملAssociations between malaria and local and global climate variability in five regions in Papua New Guinea
BACKGROUND Malaria is a significant public health issue in Papua New Guinea (PNG) as the burden is among the highest in Asia and the Pacific region. Though PNG's vulnerability to climate change and sensitivity of malaria mosquitoes to weather are well-documented, there are few in-depth epidemiological studies conducted on the potential impacts of climate on malaria incidence in the country. M...
متن کاملThe Role of Enso in Determining Climate and Maize Yield Variability in the U.s. Cornbelt
Recent advances in understanding the role of the El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO) in climate variability present opportunities for improving efficiency in agricultural production. We investigated the relationships between ENSO, climate and maize yields in the U.S. cornbelt, using both observed data and crop simulations. Using a time-series of sea-surface temperature anomalies (SSTA) from the...
متن کاملDecadal Variability in ENSO Predictability and Prediction
A simple coupled model is used to examine decadal variations in El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO) prediction skill and predictability. Without any external forcing, the coupled model produces regular ENSO-like variability with a 5-yr period. Superimposed on the 5-yr oscillation is a relatively weak decadal amplitude modulation with a 20-yr period. External uncoupled atmospheric ‘‘weather nois...
متن کاملClimate and ENSO variability associated with vector-borne diseases in Colombia
Climatic factors are associated with the incidence of diverse vector-borne diseases (VBDs). Colombia, located in tropical South America, witnesses high precipitation rates and temperatures, varying with elevation over the Andes. We show how temperatures are linked to malaria incidence throughout the country, and we compare those results with those obtained via simple mathematical expressions th...
